DSM Sinochem Pharmaceuticals (DSP) is expanding its manufacturing facility in Delft, the Netherlands, to meet growing demand for sustainably produced antibiotics, building on the company’s commitment in the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Expansion of the facility will include a new fermenter, making use of energy efficient and environmentally friendly technology. This new extension is expected to be fully operational in the last quarter of the year.
The Delft site produces 7-ADCA, which is the key intermediate for cephalosporin active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The company states that it is currently the only remaining producer of this intermediate in the Western hemisphere.
“Our sustainable and environmentally friendly manufacturing process not only results in a higher 7-ADCA product quality and significant reduction of the product carbon footprint, but also prevents unnecessary active antimicrobial discharge,” said Frans Vlaar, business unit director Europe America at DSP. “It is highly encouraging to see that our customers increasingly recognise these benefits linked to our 7-ADCA product and manufacturing process.”
