Patients taking medicines for Parkinson’s, epilepsy and blood clots are being warned to check if their prescriptions are part of certain batches of recalled medicines.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is warning patients taking prescriptions of Neupro, Vimpat and Clexane that their medicines could be part of batches that are being recalled.
The announcement was made as a precautionary measure as it’s believed that the medicines were taken out of the regulated supply chain and reintroduced at a later stage. The MHRA states that the medicines are still legitimate, though the correct transport and storage conditions cannot be guarantee, potentially effecting the treatments’ effectiveness.
There is no evidence the medicines have been tampered with and the risk of them not being effective is almost negligible, the MHRA state. As such, patients are being told to continue taking their medicines.
How to check if your batch has been affected
Patients can check the batch numbers on B&S Healthcare labelled packs to see if their prescriptions have been affected. More so, a full list of affected medicines can be found on the MHRA website. The recall only relates to B & S Healthcare labelled products.
A range of other affected medicines are also being recalled at a pharmacy level including, Spiriva Inhalation Powder, Incruse Inhaler, Seebri Breezhaler for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Dovobet Gel for psoriasis and Provisacor (Crestor) for high cholesterol.
Dr Samantha Atkinson, director of the MHRA’s Inspection, Enforcement and Standards Division, said: “Making sure the medicines people and their families take are acceptably safe and effective is the primary role of the MHRA and is our highest priority.
When we are made aware of potential risks to the security of the supply chain, the MHRA takes action to protect the public.
