The final day of ACHEMA is here, so as everyone starts looking towards the end of the huge show and the daunting task of packing everything away again, we take a look at some more of the exciting developments and news from the exhibition floor…

Experience the smart factory
At ACHEMA, IMA is presenting its perspective of how the pharmaceutical industry is meant to be — a complete portfolio featuring the launch of new machines, new technical solutions to specific production issues, pilot projects for Industry 4.0, unique approaches to manufacturing processes and turn-key applications.
The booth is organised in a certain way so that visitors can gain a comprehensive overview of what the company represents in the pharma processing and packaging market. Each exhibition area takes the visitor on a journey to unveil the opportunities that are available to them in several manufacturing stages — a virtual as well as real-life tour through the smart factory of the future.
In the solid dose area, visitors can meet company specialists in dispensing, handling, granulation, tabletting, capsule filling and coating.
IMA CROMA
Additionally, CROMA will be on display, which is the company’s latest development in continuous coating.
Different levels of containment solutions will be shown, including the ADAPTA capsule filler and PREXIMA tablet press.
The range of products for handling high potency solid drugs is completed by Spine — IMA’s partner — SENSUM’s automatic visual inspection and sorting machine. And, IMA’s PREXIMA 800 bilayer version is also available for viewing.
Three solutions will be presented in the aseptic processing & freeze drying area: one for aseptic liquid filling, one for powder microdosing and one for freeze drying.
First outlined at Interpack last year, IMA’s INJECTA fill-finish for RTF syringes, vials and cartridges will be on show. With robot driven manipulations and clean design, there has already been a lot of interest, according to the company.
For powder microdosing, the company is exhibiting the XTREMA PWD, which was designed with the rising issue of antibiotic resistance in mind. This offering has a three-split powder filling solution, which fills three different antibiotics and does away with the powder-blending phase.
IMA QUANTUM
Furthermore, the company will show QUANTUM — a non-invasive technique capable of performing quantitative real-time process relevant measurements during the freeze-drying process.
In the packaging area the company’s cross-divisional synergies are more apparent. The GIANT blister-packing machine, equipped with a containment application developed together with the company’s aseptic processing team, responds to the increasing demand for packaging high potent solid products. The VENUS washer completes the range.
The all-in-one complete bottle counting system, UNILINE, and a deep draw forming and sealing machine for packing ampoules, syringes, vials and bottles, C102V, will also be highlighted.
To help with serialisation, all the packaging lines on display at the booth include a DYNAMICA cartoner, a Sensitive AP400T labeller and a CPH2 horizontal case-packer, including features to combat packaging adulteration and for track & trace. As well the company will present a standalone Sensitive AP400C labeller equipped with printing and vision devices.
For the very first time the company will have an area, completely dedicated to automation, showing advanced assembly solutions for medical devices, such as inhalers, injection systems, diagnostic devices, infusion products and ophthalmic products.

Pop up lectures
International supplier of customised solutions for liquid processes in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and food sectors, Zeta, will be featuring pop up lectures so visitors can make the most of their visit to the booth.
On the last day the Zeta team will be featuring pop up lectures across the whole day covering the company’s range of magnetic mixing technologies, hybrid solutions, efficient automation, engineering solutions, kLa measuring methods and a virtual tour through one of the company’s realised fast-track projects.
All the lectures last 10 minutes and visitors will be afforded the opportunity to ask the experts after each session.

Innovative process analytical tech
Telstar
Telstar will be exhibiting at ACHEMA with its latest solutions for the biotechnological and pharmaceutical industry and research centres.
On the booth a PAT Corner area will be set up to display the innovative developments in the process analytical technology field for pharmaceutical freeze-drying systems and aseptic manufacturing processes.
The new Sapphire capacitance diaphragm gauge will be introduced to the freeze-drying market for the first time.
Additionally, an innovative steam quality sensor to measure in line steam dryness and degree of superheat of the pure steam used in sterilisation processes, thus allowing the continuous monitoring of such a critical supply will also be displayed.
In the field of cleanroom environmental monitoring and operation, the technological set will integrate an IMD-A system for air instantaneous microbial detection that, using an optical technology, is capable of simultaneously detecting both size and biologic fluorescence of airborne particulates. A smart HVAC control system for cleanrooms will also be showcased, whose monitoring and controlling capability allows the system to reduce the frequency of air renovation cycles and to reach the maximum level permitted of particles in the room in accordance with GMP classification, while saving over 40% in energy consumption depending on the room operation and use.
In freeze drying, the new Lyonuc, the nucleation induction method developed by Telstar will be presented and demonstrated, which is suitable for any type of freeze-dryer without modifying its main elements or adding gases or external substances.
Finally, the company will be showcasing its automatic vial loading and unloading system for freeze-dryers, the Lyogistics Zero, which can be cleaned and sterilised in place inside the freeze-dryer chamber.

Economic printing or coding of labels
Atlantic Zeiser
Atlantic Zeiser will showcase how to implement cost-efficient late stage printing of complete pharmaceutical labels for vials with variable and serialised data, achieving a brilliant, abrasion-proof printing quality.
Using the digital high-speed DIGILINE Label printing system, pharmaceutical companies and contract packers can replace older technologies. Before ACHEMA, two pharmaceutical manufacturers decided to switch to DIGILINE Label and both have place orders with Atlantic Zeiser.
“These two orders once again demonstrate the DIGILINE Label’s versatility in fulfilling a wide range of customer requirements,” says Frank Sablinski, director Sales Pharma & Packaging Solutions at Atlantic Zeiser. “Thanks to the fully digital printing technology, print jobs can be loaded and started quickly without requiring mechanical changeovers. That can save up to 60 minutes per print job. And the running expenses are more than 30% lower compared with thermal transfer printing.”
At the centre of the DIGILINE Label is the contact-free OMEGA DoD UV inkjet printer, which ensures brilliant print quality on various label materials such as paper, PP, PE and PVC. Another benefit is that the print features supreme resistance to abrasion, light and alcohol-based solvents.
The Pharmaceutical and Packaging Solutionsdivision of Atlantic Zeiser develops tailored systems to facilitate the reliable, legally compliant, cost-efficient and fast application of unique security features to individual and mass products. Digital pharma factory of the future
Digitisation of processes, integration of software and equipment, operating concepts for the pharmaceutical shop floor or big data and analysis — Werum IT Solutions will present new answers for the digital pharmaceutical factory of the future at ACHEMA.

Another trade fair highlight is the easy integration of software and equipment using PAS-X MSI Plug & Produce. Werum was awarded as ‘Best Of’ at the Industriepreis 2018, for this solution.
