DWK Life Sciences has launched a free of charge web app, DURAN Label Creator, which is aimed at facilitating the design and printing of laboratory labels.

Lab labels
As a carrier of critical information, laboratory labels must be reliable to ensure that research success is not put at risk. With the new app, scientists can layout their own labels by downloading ready-made hazard pictograms, adding alphanumeric text or optional QR codes or barcodes. Other personal features can be added, such as background colour or other images.
Once designed the labels are then sent as a PDF file for printing, which can be done via an ordinary office printer. The company also produces DURAN YOUTILITY labels in printer ready A4 sheets to accompany the app.
“There are numerous blank laboratory labels available in the market, however there is no really easy way to print information onto the labels,” added Alistair Rees, DURAN product manager at DWK Life Sciences. “For this reason, most lab labels are still handwritten with the potential risk of illegibility. We believe that the new DURAN Label Creator web app. makes designing and printing lab labels easy and fun.”
