Catalent Pharma Solutions has won the annual ‘Innovation in Process and Formulation Development’ category award at the CPhI Pharma Awards, for its OptiShell technology
Catalent’s OptiShell technology was one of three finalists and the award was presented at a ceremony on the second day of CPhI Worldwide, 13 October.
OptiShell is a softgel technology platform that uses plant-derived polysaccharides. Softgels traditionally use gelatin as the film-forming polymer in the capsule shell.
The different physico-chemical and thermo-mechanical properties of OptiShell capsules allow for encapsulation of a wider range of fill formulation types including semi-solids formulated at higher temperatures.
Dr. Aris Gennadios, Catalent’s president of softgel technologies, said: “We would like to thank the judging panel for their recognition of our OptiShell softgel platform.”
